Get to know Throckmorton Show Goats

Matthew Winterholler

Allow us to introduce ourselves: we’re the Throckmorton family, and we’re show goat breeders in northern Colorado. Though we’ve been in operation since 2009, we’re always looking for ways to improve and grow–enter our new website, which will allow us to be more communicative with our current and potential buyers.

Who is the Throckmorton family?

The Throckmortons are Colorado natives. Located outside of Greeley, Colorado, our family lives ad raises animals on the very land that our ancestors settled on with beautiful views of Long’s Peak and Mt. Meeker. When we’re not doing chores, making breeding decisions, or envisioning the future of our partnership, we can often be found hanging out by the pool with a beer or grilling out (in the summertime, at least).

The Throckmortons are show goat breeders with a history of success. We raise ABGA-registered Boer goats for breeders across the country. We also sell market goats for livestock shows and 4-H and FFA students.

How did the Throckmortons start breeding show goats?

The family has spent their entire lives in animal agriculture, starting originally with raising 4-H pigs and poultry animals.

During his childhood, Ryan fell in love with showing animals, showing multiple species and finding success later in his show career with goats. After high school, he didn’t want to give that life up. So, in 2009, Ryan, along with his father, Jerry, and grandmother, Jackie, formed a partnership and officially started Throckmorton Show Goats with only a few registered Boer does.

The Throckmortons have since grown as show goat breeders. Ryan provides the vision for the partnership while ensuring the family is visible at shows and sales across the U.S. West and Midwest. Ryan, along with his parents, Jerry and Carol; sister, Erin; grandmother, Jackie; and husband, Matthew, have worked to build a show goat breeding operation that prides itself on winning, productive females while providing quality customer service.
