Matthew Winterholler

Matthew here! It’s been a whirlwind of a summer around Throckmorton Show Goats. Between shows, breeding schedules, personal and work trips and so much more, it feels like we’ve blinked and it’s already August. Is kidding season really already this close?!

After my recent work trip to Dallas, Ryan and I have finally had some time to sit down a process the Weld County Fair’s Colorado Boer Goat Association show from last weekend. We had another successful American Boer Goat Association (ABGA)-sanctioned show at the Weld County Fair with some of our best show goats, including Lady Gaga and our M048 commercial doe.

Not only was the show successful, but we also had the pleasure of having Grandma Jackie tag along with us. It’s been more than a year since Grandma Jackie has been able to come out with us, and her joy and commitment always shine through when she attends shows. She can always be found ring-side taking pictures with her iPad, labeling ribbons as they come in, and chatting with old friends–all while sitting in her chair that’s pridefully labelled “Grandma.” We always love having her come along.

Anyways, onto the results! Here are a few highlights for the Weld County Fair Colorado Boer Goat Association’s show in Greeley, Colorado.

JRJSG’s Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is one of our favorites in this summer’s show string, and you simply can’t beat her sweet personality. A 36+ percentage doe, Lady Gaga exemplifies everything we strive for when breeding for productive, winning Boer females–a foundation of width, bone and sound structure with plenty of muscle shape and rib capacity, all while combining it into a pretty package. She’s simply a brick house that’s hard to find a fault in.

JRJSG’s M048 Commercial Doe

M048 is not ABGA-registered, but man, oh, man is she the real deal. She follows much the pattern of all of our does: sound structured with a foundation of width and bone. But what truly allows her to shine is just how expressive she is over her top and through her twist. This girl is a nod to the wether and market goat genetics that pull through much of our herd, and we can’t wait to see what she produces for us in the coming years. Ultimately, M048 is one of the best show goats we’ve produced.
